Classroom Organization: How to Pack Up Your Classroom for the Summer

Summertime is just around the corner, and if you’re a teacher, you’re probably looking forward to that blissful vacation. Before you can lock up the classroom and hit the beach, you’ll need to pack up your materials and make some preparations for the next school year. In this handy guide, we’ve shared a few classroom organization ideas that will give you a head start, so that you aren’t overwhelmed in the fall.

Label Your Materials

First, it’s important to stick labels on your storage boxes, so you know what’s inside without having to dig around. Try to be as descriptive as possible, and you won’t have to guess the contents. For an even smarter solution, try labeling the 15-Drawer Organizer Cart and designating each drawer for specific supplies. With a dedicated organizer, you’ll never need to worry about packing. Simply roll the cart into a storage area, and then move on with your day.

Start Packing Early

First, take home any materials and books that you’ve already used in your lesson plan, so that you eliminate a few items from your checklist. Next, create a donation bin for materials that you don’t need anymore, so that you clear some of the clutter. Finally, gather your remaining items in a storage container like the Handwoven Nesting Storage Basket, so you can quickly throw them in the car when summer break begins.

Get Mobile

Classroom organization ideas don’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, the best storage solution is a sturdy shelving unit that you can roll between rooms. We recommend the 3-Tier UltraZinc Shelving Cart, which has corrosion-resistant plating and secure locking casters. Each shelf can support up to 50 pounds, so it’s strong enough to carry your books and lab materials. Best of all, you can use the shelving unit during the school year. Make sure to label it (and your other furniture) before leaving on vacation, though! This will ensure that the custodians don’t move your belongings to other classrooms while you’re away.
